Obesity Medicine Conferences
Logo design, event branding, brand identity, print design, web design
In my time at the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA), one of my core responsibilities was the creation and execution of branding for our once-a-year event. I led the visual and digital execution of these conferences which were attended by 1,000+ obesity medicine clinicians; creating logos, branding, signage, and large-scale graphics across print and digital platforms. I also built the conference website in HTML/CSS, supported the mobile app in Cadmium, and captured photo and video content for marketing and media use.

One of the things I first noticed when I started at OMA was the lack of distinct branding for conferences. As an organization, we decided to lean further into the idea of separating out the branding of the conference from the organization at large, as the members we surveyed has consistently told us that travelling across the United States was their favorite part of the conference experience. Above is the first year we implemented this new process, switching from our generic colors to a city-themed brand and adding a tagline that tied into the OMA President’s goal for the year.

This next conference saw an increase in attendance and a more abstract design language due to it being hosted in the Washington DC area and the President’s goal being to focus on nutrition. Find the throughline between those two concepts proved to be a challenge, but eventually I landed on the USPS and early 1900’s governmental event art as the guiding concept for this conference’s branding. My mom was a part of a group of women that sent each other recipes in the mail via postcard, and I felt we could tie in the two concepts of Washington DC and nutritional health by leaning into that aesthetic.

For 2026, the OMA’s President wants to focus on cardiovascular health and we’re hosting the conference in San Diego. We wanted some way to incorporate both concepts without leaning to far into an “island” aesthetic, as San Diego is not an island city. I conceptualized the concept of a wave that crashed into the shape of a heart, incorporating cardiovascular health and San Diego’s coastal roots. The process above is how we went from early concept to finalized logo.
